In the mid-1980s, a new high-tech company, destined to become a benchmark the world over, was born: BMW Technik GmbH, better known internationally as “ZT”.
In just six months, the BMW Technik GmbH team had accomplished exactly what it had set out to achieve: designer concepts, the use of cutting-edge materials, and a cut in development time. All of this was expressed in a single name: Z1, the car of the future.

“The time for speculation is past. The riddle has been solved,” BMW AG declared at the presentation of the Z1 Roadster at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
It was an unprecedented success even before production began in 1988. A car as red as passion, offering absolute driving pleasure – fun, intuitive and, most importantly, unrivalled.
What other car could astonish the world with its futuristic vertical sliding doors that disappeared into their sills, allowing the driver to cruise along over the asphalt “en plein air”? It was often in the cultural spotlight of its day, appearing in a number of films and art exhibitions, like the model by A.R. Penck, which today is on display at the BMW Museum in Munich.

The car featured in this story is entirely original, and it is available for sale at our showroom in Reggio Emilia.
