The History
In 1971 the already tested BMW 2800 CS was replaced by the new 3.0 CS and 3.0 CSI models which had a displacement increased to 2986 cm³, but, while the first maintained carburetor power and delivered 180 HP, the second fitted an injection mechanics coming to deliver well 200CV.
The 3.0 CSL (L stood for leicht, meaning light) adopted the 180 HP carburetor engine as the CS and was recognizable by the chromed wheel arches, the thinner and matt black painted bumpers and the black side adhesive strip. The interior, apart from the sports seats in leather and fabric and the "racing" steering wheel, was identical to that of the normal versions. Obviously there was a significant difference in weight thanks to the use of aluminum for the bodywork and plexiglass for the windows. All aimed at making the car light for racing purpose.
When the CS was unveiled to the public, Road & Track magazine called the 3.0 "arguably the most sophisticated straight-six in the world". Although designed as a fast and comfortable touring car, the 3.0 CSL would prove to be one of the most successful racing coupes of all time. A special version of the 3.0 CSL was also homologated to participate in the European Touring Car Championship, greatly increasing BMW's reputation as a sports car manufacturer thanks to the several Championship won. A total of 1,200 were built between 1971 and 1975.
Car of extraordinary beauty, like brand new. The car is in superb condition of both bodywork and mechanics, and has been recently restored and repainted in its beautiful original INKA color. New moldings, bezels, seals, exterior mirrors, handles, bumpers, badges and 3.0 CSL livery.
The engine has also been completely restored with the replacement of exhaust and muffler pipes. Today this car is able to deliver all the original power and performance in a stunning way. The original alloy wheels are perfect with new tires.
The internal instrumentation, including the original three-spoke leather-covered steering wheel, is original and perfect. In the passenger compartment, the restored seats in black leather with fabric of the same color stand out. The door panels have been newly restored. The passenger compartment floor also features new carpeting and new mats.
BMW Certificate of Authenticity and double keys.
